MEE Blog Post 13

The final blog post for my linear class, this semester flew by once I got back from break. Its been an eventful semester with more downs then ups but it'll be finished up next week and ill finally be able to enjoy a summer. For the past three years I've taken summer classes and this year I've decided to take a break and just slow it down a bit. Before I know it'll be my graduating semester from Temple University.

I learned a lot more from my linear systems class then I honestly thought I would. Dr.Ferrar taught me how to think outside box a little more and how to make life easier by using mat-lab. Blogging helped calm the nerves and also see that I'm not alone, everyone in the class pretty much experiences the same amount of stress for college. I will continue blogging, probably not every week but defiantly when important things happen in my life, ill have to change the blog page though im not satisfied with the layout.

MEE Blog Post 12

My project is not going to well, at least the mat lab portion. I have most of it completed but i'm sure one of my values isn't suppose to be negative. The overall idea of the project is to compare a single zone air conditioning system of a two floor structure to a dual zone air conditioning system of the same dual floor structure to see which one is more cost effective for the buyer over a longer time but its becoming troublesome. I have three different matrices to solve for the whole house one 10x10 of the single zone system, and two others 5x5 for the lower and a 6x6 for the upper. Its become a nightmare but it seems to be working out.

I thought the test went over rather well, I changed my pace and was able to study several days in advance. Then I went back to the review the night before the exam and worked out everything one last time. I think my performance on this test vs the last test was better overall. I made simple mistakes last time that cost me points.

MEE Blog Post 10

On to the second project, I have several ideas in mind with my group but we are still in the works to figure out which real world idea is most beneficial to analyze and measure. We had ideas of measuring the differences between grip on two different wrenches (channel locks and a vise grip.) The second idea is measuring different psi of water plumbing for a house compared to a building. Were still undecided and need to work it out this weekend.

Bad things come in 3's

If you read my post last week you would have seen that I lost my grandfather, after I posted that blog a came to find out that a friend of mine who was 23 passed due to a food allergy and couldn't be saved. Knowing that bad things usually come in threes, I was waiting for the last one and I come back from break to find my room soaked in water from my neighbors upstairs over flowing the bathtub or sink. Its been a difficult few weeks but this is what defines who you are, if you can make it through times like these a simple linear project from college cant be that bad. My project has been giving me issues from day one because of the differential equation involved in my system but I've found ways around it, just another obstacle and Im glad the project is finally nearing the end.

This post is going to be for my grandfather who passed away this past Tuesday.

Steve,

You were an astounding man, one who was kind and loving to not only my grandmother but also my whole family. I will always remember the good spirit you radiated around you and carried with you wherever you were. Even after being diagnosed with cancer you never gave up, you fought it every day and remained optimistic through every treatment and surgery. I know you were not my biological grandfather but you never stopped filling the role no matter the circumstances. You never wanted me to call you “Grandpa” in fear of forgetting Arthur, but to me you will always be my grandfather. I’m sure he was very happy to see how you treated my family and is grateful for the 17 wonderful years you gave us. We all love you, rest in peace.

This will be another follow of blog post to last weeks post about my Linear Systems Test. Overall I think the test went very well, nothing was a surprise between homework and the study guide. Everything on the exam was seen/reviewed before hand and was up to the student if he/she wanted to review the work. For me, my study habits worked in my favor because that's what I'm used to, I purposely went to bed at 9pm the night before hand and got a good night sleep. Then once I woke up I worked through the entire studied guide from start to finish again just in case I may have missed something or not retained the information. It works out well in my favor if I take sample tests before the exam, being I have anxiety before exams. Next objective is this linear project which seems challenging but Im sure there are ways to simplify my topic of choice. I decided to compare two different suspension systems in used in cars, one is the standard passive system used in most cars (simple springs) and the other is an active system (changes dampening rates depending on different surfaces). I was informed that the systems are governed by differential equations and have to convert them to linear form somehow, ill figure it out soon, I hope haha.

Well I had my first exam in Linear and Im rather happy with the results. I didn't get a grade back but i know i did well on the exam thanks to the Mid term review to which I am extremely grateful for. The most challenging thing for me was setting up matrices based off of models, I still am not 100% on it and it reflected on the exam but Im an ace with Matrices. I've had several years of experience with them through grade school so it was just re learning them to this point. Overall I'm super happy with my progress in this course.

Ten weeks to go... It feels odd to say this. The semester has only just started and were already one third of the way through (with the exemption of finals week and spring break.) That being said I finally checked out that Rockwall inside the gym by Cozis pizzeria. What a blast that was and a great stress reliever, it allowed me to meet some nice new people then the regular party crowds also.

Also I learned a valuable lesson this week, always prepare early. I ran into a scheduling issue with homework because I anticipated a time for how long it was going to take me to finish homework and it backfired in my face. I waited till the last minute and not only did it effect that one class but it caused a domino effect and eventually hurt me across the board. LESSON LEARNED. Just when you think you have it all figured out you don't, Im glad I learned though.

MEE Post 03

This weeks personal rating:
1.) 8/10
2.) 4/10
3.) 8/10
4.) 10/10
5.) 7/10

Check blog post 2 for questions above.

Week 4 of the new semester, I've been getting really into the Eagles Pandora station again. Next time Im at home Im going to pick up my guitar and bring it out to Philly I miss being able to play during down time especially when we get a snow day.

I started making a cook book, if you could even call it a book there's one recipe in it haha but its titled "Broke-Ass Recipes : College Edition"

Anyway I made some pretty good chili here's the recipe:

Recipe:
2 - lbs. ground beef or turkey
2 - onions
2 - bell peppers
1 - clove of garlic
2 - 16oz. cans of baked beans
2 - 16oz. cans of black beans
2 - 16oz. cans of chili beans
1 - 16oz. can of diced tomatoes
29-32oz. can of tomato sauce
1.5 table spoons of chili powder
1 table spoon of black pepper
1 table spoon of salt

optional:
0.5 cup of mustard
1.5 cups of BBQ sauce
1.5 cups of cooked/chopped bacon strips

- Cook the ground beef or turkey in a frying pan with finely chopped onions and peppers and add seasonings
- Drain grease and put everything into the crock pot, add all other ingredients and set the crock pot for on high for 3 hours "SET IT AND FORGET IT"

Hopefully you'll like the chili, and you'll probably be bored with it after the week of eating it hahaha

MEE Blog post 02

Im going to start a rating of my personal performance every week as a way to study myself. Im going to score myself out of ten on these topics:

1.) 7 hours of sleep per night?
2.) Active, Exercising?
3.) Social interaction
4.) Down time
5.) Homework completion

This weeks rating:
1.) 7/10
2.) 3/10
3.) 9/10
4.) 2/10
5.) 9/10

This week was interesting, I've made a ton of new "acquaintances" (to early to call them friends I might scare them away haha) which is surprising to me. This would be the first time everyone I've come in contact with is open to the idea of making new friends and getting to know people. Definitely helps me feel at home being in a new city.

Also i decided to check out some of the local food trucks and have to say after trying two, the burger tank, and a pizza truck, the burger tank definately has my vote. Im from New Jersey and there is no comparison to the pizza we have there. If you ever want a REAL slice of pizza go to the boardwalk on the jersey shore to a place called Maruca's by far the best pizza.

Tune in next week, or not, up to you! haha

MEE Blog Post 01 - Introduction

This is my first blog post ever so bare with me, I am 22 years old and currently studying mechanical engineering at Temple University and this is my first semester here! Nothing but warm welcomes have come to me and Im excited to kick off the new year with a new life here in Philadelphia. With that being said I do miss my home town in NJ, and with out it I most certainly don't think I would be here. Toms River afforded me valuable education which many citizens there do NOT appreciate. I took the more relaxed route went to community college and worked to pay my way. While many of my friends went away to college and spent absorbent amounts of money on a liberal arts degree Im happy I can say I currently do not have any education debt. You may ask what have I done in all that spare time since I graduated highschool? I figure its easier to just throw it as a couple bullet points so here you go!

  •  WORKED ALOT: I have worked as an HVAC installer, Carpenter, Target Employee, Waiter and food prep at a Comedy Club, and the most educational to me Teller at PNC bank (1st salary position)
  • STUDIED ALOT: I have been taking college level courses every semester including summer quick terms since 2012. And finally have a piece a paper that says I know something! (Associates in Mathematics)
  • Bought a car!
  • Bought a motorcycle!
  • Learned how to Ski
  • Got my boating license
  • Bought some "Bear Arms"
  • Found out I enjoy hiking
  • Started weight training
  • Found out I Loved Philadelphia
  • Sold the motorcycle
  • Applied to Temple
